White lupin is an annual plant, 30 to 120 cm high. There are winter and spring forms of white lupin. Duration of growing period under spring sowing varies from 106 to 180 days. A number of varieties is cultivated only as ornamental plahnts, but others are grown for fodder and if not over-fed, are found highly nutrive and palatable. If the mature seeds of certain varieties are eaten, poisoning is liable to occur due to certain alkaloids.
